As a pianist, Edward Han Jiang has eclectic taste and an expansive technique. His musical voice explores both the culture of his upbringing in China and his new journey, living in the rain forests of British Columbia on Canada’s west coast. Having studied around the world, he is especially adept at performing late Romantic and Chinese piano music.
His discography includes myriad CDs and videos, and is a familiar name to Radio France Musique audiences. In 2023, Naxos Records has published his album Piano Miniatures from China. The ten pieces in this collection have been carefully selected as being most representative of Chinese culture.
He dives deeply into each note, meticulously studying the composer’s intention with his own exceptional musical lens. In demand as performer, he has performed solo recitals in major cities and music festivals, including The Chan Centre in Vancouver, The Carnegie Hall in New York, The University of Victoria, and Beijing Steinway Hall, etc.
As a composer, Edward Han Jiang’s music explores a broad range of genres, including soundtracks, art music, songs and symphonies including Floating Ink for Orchestra; Weeping Dewdrops, Drizzle, and Sorrowful Farewell for chamber music; Sayonara for tenor and piano; On the Beach at Night Alone for soprano and piano. From beginner through advanced levels, he has more than seven works in the latest RCM syllabus. In 2024, The China News, one of the leading national medias, has broadcasted his interview.
As an educator, Han Jiang’s passionate approach to teaching combines a rigor, with a balance of positivity. In his studio, students grow a strong foundation which then gives them the tools to find their own way musically - and in all aspects of their lives. His students have won many prestigious competitions, both nationally and internationally, including 1st-place at the 2019 Canadian Music Competition (CMC) 8-year-old piano category; 2nd-place at the 2019 CMC 10-year-old piano category; Grand prize at the Shanghai International Music Competition for Young Pianists; 1st-place at the Kiwanis Music Festival.
As an entrepreneurial organizer, Han Jiang founded the Pacific Rim International Music Festival (PRM) along with other respected musicians. These include Dr. Stephen Chatman, C.M., Board Member of PRIME Society, and Professor Emeritus of Composition at UBC, and Mr. Gary Graffman, Co-Chair of PRM Academic and Advisory Board, who is also Professor Emeritus of the Curtis Institute of Music and a Steinway Artist. This endeavor aims to offer a platform for the young pianists from the pan-Pacific regions to showcase their talents. As Han Jiang said, “Music is an art that always needs a stage. And it is our common aspiration to provide a stage for our young dreamers.”
